Hi Sean-googled black swan which is what you photographed. This swan is indigenous to Australia and was brought over to various countries such as Britian, US etc as an ornamental swan. As an aside, the British brought over the Canada Goose as an ornamental goose, many of which escaped to the wild and I think that they are seeing them everywhere now. Sue

Hi Sean-Hope you are having a great time out west but you forgot one thing- a bird book for western birds. I checked mine and it is not listed. My thought is that it is a domestic black swan and depending on where you saw it, it may or may not be an escapee. Sue
