Hello and Happy Canada Day, as we kick off July. As always we want to start with congratulating our Photo of the Month Winner and this month it’s Bryan Nelson with his photograph Morning Light. This photo was shot near Owen Sound, Ontario and Bryan told us the timing for the light was very short, and being in the right place at the right time, he captured this beautiful image. Bryan has won a 16 x 20 print from Stan C. Reade Photo. We have included a link to Bryan’s gallery that contains the rest of the series of images from this shoot.
Don’t forget to mark Sunday July 12th on your calendar to attend Digital Discover Day at the Elsie Perrin Williams Estate from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We have a fun packed day of photography and workshops. We will also be sending out details on our annual photo contest, “Summer of Fun” this year the contest kick off at photo day, you can bring your entries to the event. We look forward to seeing you on the 12th of July, admission is free.
There was some great submissions into this months Photo Assignments, and if you have not seen the members entry presentation created from the images click on the links to check out the creative submissions. Beginning of June was Black and White with a Twist of Colour, followed by Angles and our current assignment Architecture.
We have received great feedback on the new section “10 Questions with a Pro” a special Thanks go out to our first two interviewee’s Heather Mackenzie and Dave Chidley, your insight into the world of photography is appreciated. We have two more interviews we just completed and will be posting them every other Friday.
Videos this month, “Understanding Depth of Field” this video shares techniques on how to create interesting photos using depth of Field. “Check the edges of your viewfinder” talks about the importance of observation and filling your viewfinder with the right or complementary content. And we released a new lightroom preset called “the Darkside of Black & White”, if you have not downloaded it you, it’s worth the time to check it out.
This month Heather wrote an article on “How to be an upstanding and outstanding Photographer, Doug shared his photo tips “Toning and Tinting an Image” and “Where your subject looks and How it impacts your image”. Sue posted two new articles in Sue’s Birding Corner, “A little birds Defense” and “Bird Photography from Another Angle”, in the second article Sue encourages photographers to go out and capture birds from a more animated position than just a static pose.
Also as promised here is a link to “Macro in your Own Backyard” as a preview to the presentation Sue will be giving at our July 12th Digital Discovery event.
