October was a busy month around MyPhotoClub.com both on the website and activities, thank you to all the members that participated in the different events this past month. As you read through the newsletter below, we have included links to all the new items and articles added to the site this month.
As always we want to start off the newsletter in congratulating Dave Hood, his black and white image of the canoe on the lake is November’s photo of the month. Dave had won a 16x24 enlargement from Stan C. Reade Photo.
The canoeing event was a big success and thanks to Roch at Nova Craft and Dave Hood for coming out with all the canoes and helping organize the event. There was quite a few galleries posted this month from members who attended, if you click on the members name it will take you to their gallery from the event. Bryan Nelson, Nancy McRae, Phil Pfeifer, Ann Marie Rodger, James Cowie, Ryan Cowie, Bob Steer, Sean Allott, Patti Hinton, Suzanne Southon, Dave Hood. Thanks for posting all these great images.
We also had two one day photo tours to Black Creek Pioneer Village, both days were great and again there was many galleries created from the tour.
We launched a few new sections on the website this month, one of the is the bi-weekly photo assignments and so far we have had great fun with the images that have been posted to the sections. The first assignment was Self-Portraits and the current assignment is Anything Halloween. Members are encourage to go out and take images that pertain to the subject and post them to the section in the forum set up for the assignment. At the end of each assignment we create a slide show to present all the image. If you have not watched the slide show this link will take you there. Members have to November 7th to submit their “Anything Halloween” image, get creative and have some fun.
Another new section to the website is Shop Talk, in these videos we will feature and review different pieces of photographic equipment, ideas, software and have discussions on different photographic topics. If you have not seen the first episode, its a review on the Canon 5D Mark II.
We have done some updates to the members galleries and now you can search on the members name and it will show you all the galleries they have created. Also the latest posted images to any gallery will now be on top of the list when you go into the gallery listings.
Gadget guy was busy this month with three different videos, in the first video he demonstrated framing techniques, followed by his second video on different methods to hanging your frames. The third video was a fun one created on how he did his self-portrait for the assignment section.
We featured a few videos on Adobe Lightroom this month, the first one was on Exporting your Images, the second featured how to load Presets into Lightroom and the third was Shortcuts in Lightroom. We also put up a Lightroom Preset page, members are invited to download any of the presents from this page. If you have a present that you have created and want to share it with the members email it to support@myphotoclub.com and we sill zip up the file and post it to the preset page. If you are not sure how to install a preset we created a video to help you with that too.
This month in Adobe Elements we did a video on using saturation to increase your fall colours in your image. This is a quick and easy way to enhance the colour of your photos quickly and easily in Adobe Elements. We also did a feature video on how HDR imagery works and how to create an HDR Image.
Doug was busy with weekly photo tips, this month he talked about “the picture inside the picture”, “creative ways to use your tele-photo lens for fall photos”, “your horizon”, and “taking photos at Halloween”. In Sue’s Birding corner she did an article on “Preparing for Winter Birding Photos”, this is a great article and proves you don’t have to go very far from home to get great images of birds. In fact you don’t have to leave home, thanks Sue.
Also a big thanks for another great workshop with Dave Chidley, it’s always great to have Dave join us for special events and workshops. And speaking of workshops, we are pleased to present our Winter Workshops that will run from November thru March of 2008. The workshops are listed on the Events page, you can download a copy of the workshop brochure and registration from. We will be offering two types of workshops, two hour Tuesday night workshops and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday workshops, check out or line-up, there is something for every photographer.
And finally the other fun event before Christmas is our second annual Christmas Lights Tour on Sunday December 7th. The details of the tour and registration form and brochure are available for download on the Events Page. Book early as space is limited.
